BEIJING, CHINA, 21 January 2008, Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced strategic initiatives in China that will advance the company’s plan to build a global community for collaborative innovation. During his first visit to China as Red Hat President and CEO, Jim Whitehurst unveiled Red Hat’s Open Source Collaborative Innovation (OSCI) Initiative to accelerate work with partners to deliver best-in-class, comprehensive, open source solutions.
Under the OSCI Initiative, Mr. Whitehurst conferred Red Hat certification on 30 independent software vendors (ISVs) on Red Hat solutions and unveiled a Red Hat ISV Solution Center in Beijing. The ISVs, from different regions across China, are involved in the development of software solutions for a wide range of industries, including finance, healthcare and manufacturing. Red Hat’s collaboration with ISVs is the centerpiece of the company’s strategy to accelerate the deployment of enterprise-class, open source solutions in China, to encourage wider adoption of open source solutions and to support Red Hat-certified ISVs as they take their solutions to the global market.
The Red Hat ISV Solution Center in Beijing will provide ISVs throughout the region with technology know-how, technical and marketing support and testing facilities. A key function of the Red Hat ISV Solution Center will be to test and certify enterprise open source solutions developed by the ISVs using Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat’s JBoss middleware technology. A Red Hat technical team will be based at the Solution Center to provide technical support to the ISVs. Currently, Red Hat works jointly with ISVs in eight solution labs across the country.
Mr. Whitehurst also recognized the opening of a Red Hat Research and Development Center in Beijing – one of six R&D facilities in Red Hat’s global network. The center will provide internationalization support for all of Red Hat’s software offerings and deliver hardware-certification services for Red Hat products.
“These announcements are Red Hat's latest moves in what will be a series of initiatives that the Company will launch in China to support a vibrant open source development and user community. Organizations around the world, including China, are challenged to drive business growth on a budget, while extracting maximum value from resources. As the leading provider of open source solutions, Red Hat focuses on delivering value through community and customer-driven innovation that will ultimately drive value for the customer by offering lower capital costs and enterprise-class quality and security,” said Mr. Whitehurst.
Beijing is the first stop on Mr. Whitehurst’s tour of Asia, the first overseas trip he has made since his appointment as Red Hat President and CEO.
